Maëlle Beck from Eesti Maaülikooli veterinaarmeditsiini ja loomakasvatuse instituut has recently completed a study visit at the University of Helsinki, focused on PCR techniques and bioinformatics for microbiota analysis within a #OneHealth framework.
During her stay, she worked in pre-clinical veterinary facilities, collaborated with laboratory technicians, and gained first-hand experience with bioinformatic data processing using university computing resources.
Highlights from the visit:
✅ Hands-on experience with PCR as a key step in microbiota research
✅ Introduction to bioinformatic tools and data processing workflows
✅ Exchange with researchers and veterinarians across multiple disciplines
✅ Exposure to interdisciplinary OneHealth approaches, including social sciences
The visit also enabled valuable networking and discussions on potential future avian-related research collaborations with the Estonian University of Life Sciences.
A sincere thank you to the University of Helsinki team, and especially to Dr. Mikael Niku, for the guidance, mentorship, and warm welcome during the visit.
