One Health seminar brought together experts working on health and security threats

The seminar was attended by representatives of ministries and other government institutions, universities and partner organisations, who shared their knowledge and experience in the prevention of and preparedness for chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) threats.

CBRN threats clearly demonstrate the importance of the One Health approach. Threats that may simultaneously affect human and animal health as well as the environment - cannot be addressed by any single sector or institution alone. Preparing for such threats and mitigating their impact requires cooperation across sectors, the integration of knowledge and coordinated preparedness.

Bringing together researchers, representatives of government institutions and practitioners from Estonia, Poland and Finland provided an opportunity to exchange experiences, combine perspectives from different fields and discuss how to develop more comprehensive solutions for future crisis situations.

The topics addressed at the seminar were also brought to a wider audience at the Opinion Festival in Paide, where discussions continued on Estonia’s preparedness for risks related to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats.

The One Health Centre at the Estonian University of Life Sciences aims to promote a research- and cooperation-based approach that integrates human, animal and environmental health and brings together knowledge from different fields.
