Tartu Tamme Gümnaasium recognises veterinary collaboration as Achievement of the Year

10.06.2026

Tartu Tamme Gümnaasium has recognised the Institute of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences with its “Achievement of the Year” award for the veterinary studies track collaboration. The programme, launched for the first time this academic year, gave students the opportunity to explore veterinary medicine within the university’s teaching and research environment.

The aim of the collaboration was to bring veterinary medicine closer to young people and support them in making informed educational and career choices. Throughout the academic year, students participated in lectures, study visits and practical activities, and met with lecturers and researchers from the Estonian University of Life Sciences. This gave them valuable insight into the diversity of the veterinary profession and its broader role in animal health, animal welfare and society.

According to Kristel Peetsalu, Head of the Veterinary Medicine Curriculum, the recognition demonstrates that cooperation between secondary schools and universities helps young people gain a better understanding of different fields of study and creates valuable opportunities for planning their future education.

The institute would also like to thank Liina Kink, Academic Affairs Specialist, who coordinated the organisational aspects of the students’ studies and contributed significantly to ensuring that the collaboration ran smoothly and achieved its objectives.

The Institute of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences thanks Tartu Tamme Gümnaasium for its trust and excellent cooperation. We hope that this partnership will continue in the future and that some of the students who participated in the programme will one day choose to pursue veterinary studies at the Estonian University of Life Sciences.
