On April 24, team from the Estonian University of Life Sciences’ Equine Clinic participated in the 2nd International Veterinary Medicine Student Conference held in Lithuania, where they represented the university through research presentations, practical workshops, and professional collaboration. Students Roxane Le Coat, Emma Lakovaara, and Minka Harpää attended the event alongside Felipe Corrêa.
International Collaboration and Hands-On Training
University representatives attended the conference for the second time. Chief veterinarian at the Equine Clinic Felipe Corrêa gave a lecture on equine colic, followed by an interactive wet lab on resection and anastomosis in equine colic surgery. The workshop gave students the opportunity to develop their surgical skills through direct hands-on experience. Hyraco supported the event as a sponsor.
Student research received recognition
EMU students Emma Lakovaara and Minka Harpää also participated in the conference’s research program with presentations. Emma Lakovaara received the award for best clinical research poster for her research. Receiving this recognition as early as her third year underscores the importance of starting research early. Her work was supervised by Suranga Kodithuwakku and Felipe Corrêa, and the completion of the study was also supported by Sebastien Langui, who helped secure external funding.
Roxane Le Coat and Minka Harpää work as veterinary nurses at the equine clinic, combining clinical practice, education, and research in their daily work. At the conference, Roxane Le Coat also presented the activities of the student association Hyraco to an international audience.
Participation in the conference demonstrated how teaching, research, and practical experience can go hand in hand and gave students the opportunity to put their knowledge and skills to the test in an international setting.
