The Estonian University of Life Sciences is helping to improve the quality of veterinary education in Ukraine

Kalmus has visited the Ukrainian universitylink opens in new page every year, teaching students and contributing to the development of educational quality. In addition to practical teaching, this year’s visit focused on seminars for faculty members and the preparation of a Self-Evaluation Report (SER) for the team. Discussions covered the requirements of the European Accreditation of Veterinary Education (EAEVElink opens in new page) and the Estonian University of Life Sciences’ experience with accreditation since 2004. Particular attention was paid to which aspects and practical solutions the accreditation process should focus on. The development of clinical facilities and the enhancement of learning outcomes assessment were also discussed, as these are important steps to ensure that veterinary education meets the required standards.

During the visit, Kalmus also conducted a practical training session for students and alumni, focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of calves. The session utilized problem-based learning, analyzing real clinical cases from dairy farms. Participants worked with diagnostic models and tests to make informed clinical decisions. Kalmus emphasized the principles of disease pathogenesis and immunity, as well as the role of high-quality colostrum in animal health.

In addition to academic collaboration, Piret Kalmus also contributes to community support in Ukraine. On this occasion as well, daily necessities were delivered to soldiers, and kindergartens were supported with toys and educational materials.
