Hannelore Kiiver-Pärk, Livestock Manager at the Estonian University of Life Sciences’ Märja Experimental Farm, was recognised as the Best Breeder of 2026 for the Estonian Holstein breed at the Tõuloom 2026 livestock show held in Ülenurme on 5 September. The Estonian University of Life Sciences participated in the event, held for the 35th time this year, with animals from Märja Experimental Farm.

On 2 September, the Estonian University of Life Sciences held its first One Health Forum, bringing together nearly 30 researchers and specialists from different institutes and disciplines across the university. Planned as a monthly event, the Forum aims to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration and create new opportunities for joint research projects and funding applications.

A total of 195 new students are beginning their studies at the Institute of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences of the Estonian University of Life Sciences this academic year. In addition to bachelor's, master's and veterinary medicine students, seven new doctoral students are joining the Institute.

The Equine Clinic contributed to the preparation of the sport horse Finka for the Endurance European Championship for Young Riders & Juniors, where Finka and her rider Agnes Annimäe finished 15th, making them the highest-placed Estonian pair. The veterinarians combine their work in supporting the welfare of sport horses with clinical practice and the practical training of future veterinarians.

An expert seminar “One Health Perspectives on CBRN Threats and Preparedness”, organised by the One Health Centre of the Estonian University of Life Sciences, brought together experts from Estonia and abroad to discuss how cross-sectoral cooperation can improve preparedness for complex health and security threats.

When Helena-Krõõt Haidak applied to university after graduating from upper secondary school, she originally wanted to become a veterinarian. Instead of veterinary medicine, her mother suggested that she consider animal science – and within her very first week of studies, Helena-Krõõt realised she had found the right field.
