In this workshop, we will explore the challenges of building research projects that integrate multiple disciplines, diverse methods, and varying expectations. One Health research encompasses both life and social sciences, using quantitative and qualitative methods to study humans, non-humans, and different environments globally. Ethical considerations play a crucial role in this multidisciplinary approach.

Highlights:

  • Discussion of two distinct projects in Kenya and Finland.
  • Insights into the Kenyan project focusing on infectious disease emergence.
  • Examination of vector-borne disease studies in Finland.
  • Time reserved for participants to discuss their own One Health projects.

Speakers:

  • Tarja Sironen, PhD: Associate Professor of Emerging Infectious Diseases at the University of Helsinki. Dr. Sironen leads the "Resilient and Just Systems" project, aiming to find sustainable solutions to global challenges, including pandemics.
  • Ruut Uusitalo, PhD: Post-doctoral researcher specializing in GIScience, virology, and public health, with a focus on zoonotic diseases and vector-borne diseases in both Africa and Northern Europe.
